This project consisted of a 600 sf master bedroom suite second story addition to a 1,100 sf 1920’s single-story bungalow in Long Beach, California. The intent was to make the second floor fade into the background, so that it wouldn’t look like an addition. This was done by keeping the addition to the rear half of the house, making the addition invisible as you walk down the sidewalk in front of the house. The exterior material selection and trim details match the existing, and a “belly band” was added at the second floor level to visually break up the two story walls. The client is a contractor and his family, and the existing rear bedroom was converted into his office.
